Man charged to court for taking N5m from woman after promising to help mend her marriage

- A distraught wife in Zimbabwe has taken a supposed marriage mediator to court for extorting her of $11,000 (N5,500,000)
- She accuses the man of pretending to mediate between her and her husband who is based in South Africa
- The wife was convinced that her husband had found a girlfriend and was living with her in South Africa
A distraught wife in Harare, Zimbabwe, has approached a court to recover $11,000 (N5,500,000) she alleges a fake marriage mediator extorted from her while pretending to act as an intermediary between her and her husband.

The wife sought the court's intervention, claiming she had been extorted
38-year-old Elar Chataika accused 35-year-old Krainis Mukwasi of lying on several occasions over a long period of time that he was in contact with her husband with the aim of reconciling them.
Elar was desperate to get back with her husband, who is based in South Africa, after she learned that he had found a girlfriend there and was living with her.

The woman said she was desperate to reconcile with her husband
Elar further alleged that the fake cupid man tricked her into having a relationship with him for his own benefit. She added Krainis' lies emerged when her husband's friends got in touch with him and found the two had never been in contact.
Elar's husband is due to appear as a witness in court. The case is still ongoing. Many Zimbabweans have been left bewildered as to how Elar fell for Krainis' lies.
